COMMUNITY OUTREACH

1. Community Outreach Class held on-site at Sardis Presbyterian Church / Children ages 5-12 with multiple disabilities: Teaching literacy through Movement Education. Through movement education, we will be creating new methodology for teaching and reinforcing vowel and consonant sound combinations. Conveying the idea of sounds ‘moving’ into words that flow into sentences that express a whole thought. Focus will be on interpersonal interactions skills, team work, mathematical concepts, problem solving, learning and identifying the anatomy/ body parts/functions.- Tuesday 4:00 pm

2. Community Outreach Classes held on-site at Carolinas Medical Center for children with disabilities: Because of the severity of the disabilities represented in this program, classes are held onsite at the hospital in the Medical Education Building. Focus will be on interpersonal interactions skills, mathematical concepts, problem solving, learning and identifying the anatomy/ body parts/functions as well as Teaching literacy through Movement Education. Through movement education, we will be creating new methodology for teaching and reinforcing vowel and consonant sound combinations. Conveying the idea of sounds ‘moving’ into words that flow into sentences that express a whole thought. Extensive planning with speech pathologist, literacy facilitator, the students’ classroom teacher, and medical personnel will all be components of Allegro Foundation’s program. -Tuesday 5:30 pm, 6:00pm

3. Community Outreach Class for children of Latino descent with disabilities held on-site at Third Presbyterian Church -For Children of Latino descent with all types of disabilities: Focus will be on interpersonal interactions skills, mathematical concepts, problem solving, learning and identifying the anatomy/ body parts/functions as well as Teaching literacy through Movement Education. Through movement education, we will be creating new methodology for teaching and reinforcing vowel and consonant sound combinations. Conveying the idea of sounds ‘moving’ into words that flow into sentences that express a whole thought. Strengthening and stretching, positioning concepts, safely moving wheelchairs and walkers in group settings. Extensive planning with bilingual Teaching Assistants using both English and Spanish language. -Thursday 5:45pm

Coming in Fall 2008

Inpatient Program at Carolinas Medical Center - Levine Children's Hospital.

Allegro Foundation will hold a program at the new Levine Children's Hospital for children who are being treated as inpatients at the facility. Children will participate in weekly movement instruction programs while in the hospital, and will later transfer into our outpatient programs.
